Tuesday, April 26th

So it has been a month since I started this blog but I have not kept it up as I planned.  So a quick catch up.  I leave for community in six days.  I have accomplished so much in the past twenty days including renting a storage space (the sharing with a friend idea did not work out), paying my taxes, becoming a research subject for an investigational study at St. Luke's Hospital and selling, freecyling, recycling and donating about half of my worldly goods. Don't worry the worldliest of the worldly goods are still in the safe deposit box, I am not that philanthropic.  I have also been working (deliveries for the organic farmer) and creating resumes for my fellow unemployed.
Now I am consumed with two things, where to get more boxes and how to fit more stuff in my suitcases (more kudos to the manufacturers of Space Bags).  Some of the stuff I am taking may turn out to be unnecessary but I figure better to have and toss than not have an want.  I probably would not make a very good minimalist.

Wednesday, April 6th

A busy couple of days, arranging for storage space, renewing my driver's license, renting a PO Box and mailing all but the final two things to my son, Shae in Phoenix.  I have spend so much time using the APC (automated postage center) it now says "Welcome Back Barbara!" when I swipe my debit card.

I was accepted into a weigh loss study at St. Lukes-Roosevelt Hospital so for the next 30 days I am on a liquid protein diet and get to have a few fMRIs done.  I am hoping to be able to get a copy of my brain all lit up on photos of food and office supplies.

Saturday, April 2nd

It has been a busy, busy couple of days.  I had my first fMRI done as part of a study at St. Luke's Hospital.  It was an interesting experience.  The MRI machine is very loud (lots of whirring and clunking) for something that looks so sleekly space-aged.
I finished sorting and freecycling all my stuff  of which I still have too much.  I reserved a storage space for April 16th so now I will start the packing and wrapping process.  Big shout out to my mom and sister for supplying me with so many space bags (my bedbug phobia is somewhat allayed).
Now that things are coming to a close I am trying to say goodbye to my city (I never love something so much as when I are about to leave it or lose it).  I know I will/can return for visits while I am living in community, I will have to come back fairly regularly for the St. Luke's study, but it won't be the same.
Spring is a good time to leave New York City.  The crocus and daffodils are still in bloom, the natives are shedding their winter blues and the the trees are starting to bud.  For me April and October are New York's finest months.  The change of seasons offers fine weather and colors other than winter's drab concrete and summer's sunbleached gray.  For me the start of something new always means more. More opportunities, more change, more hope. It's like my travel  bug, I can never wait to get started to see what's out there.  My best journey have always been the seat of the pants travel when I have a loose plan but don't mind if there is a hiccup in my itinerary.
